Mobile, Alabama (say Mo-beel, with a soft accent on the 2nd syllable!)
USS ALABAMA
BATTLESHIP MEMORIAL PARK
The USS Alabama, commissioned November 1, 1942, shot down 22 enemy planes during World War II. While it was designed to carry about 2200 crew members, she usually had about 2500 enlisted men aboard.

This flag flew from the USS Evans during a Japanese suicide raid on May 11, 1945. There was a room in the USS Alabama paying tribute to the USS Frank E. Evans. The three white spots are holes made by shrapnel.

"Mark 8" 2700 pound armor piercing projectile is fired from one of the "big guns" on the USS Alabama. It travels at a speed of 2,300 feet per second. The guns are accurate up to almost 21 miles.
Submarine, The USS Drum
Tight spaces are everywhere in a submarine
I would never make it on a submarine, can you imagine trying to get through one of these "doorways" quickly? But I suppose when you're young and in shape, it's not much of a problem!

MARDI GRAS
Mobile is where Mardi Gras began in 1703. It begun as a French Catholic celebration but has evolved over the years to what it is now - a multi-week celebration. Google "Mardi Gras history" and gain a whole new perspective of what it's all about!
