Ohio

Our first stop in Ohio was at the Wilmington Thousand Trails, one of our membership campgrounds.  It was a very nice campground but, just like in most privately owned campgrounds we've been to on this trip, a large number of sites are rented on a seasonal basis.

Wilmington, Ohio, was founded in 1810 and was named after Wilmington, North Carolina, since many of the settlers came from there.  Many of the small towns we've traveled through are trying to stay alive and I give credit to the ones who have survived.  To me, they have so much more character than large cities.  So much more tranquil.

Lee's home town, he was born here in 1946 and lived in Plain City until about 1954 or 1955.  During that time, he lived on Kilbury-Huber Road which was mostly inhabited by Amish so other than the landlord's house there was no electricity on the road.  Now, there are only about three elderly Amish ladies left in Plain City.  Kilbury- Huber Road is mostly made up of houses built in the 1960's.

Canaan Elementary School, Plain City, Ohio - Lee went through 3rd grade at Canaan.  This school replaced the one he attended about three years ago (2010)
Grace Huber's (landlord) house, in an awful state of repair.  Interestingly, the house was (and is) known as the 'Grace Huber' house.  She died in the 1990's.
So sad to see it falling down, it would be such a beautiful home

We were lucky to get a site where we could get a 'peek' of the lake between two RV's

That's our neighbor's smokey fire, it was 85 degrees but several people had fires going and they were nowhere near them.  Our neighbor was inside his rig, enjoying the air conditioning!
