Creston, British Columbia - the Baja Reunion

August 7,2013

30 miles, more or less, and we'll be in Creston, British Columbia.  Well, the day got off to a bad start when Lee couldn't find the registration and insurance info for the Jeep.  In the past, we had to show the paperwork at the border so now what are we going to do?  Fortunately, after searching and searching, he found them.  Next, I usually get the Jeep ready for towing while Lee hooks it up to the motorhome but I was sidetracked so Lee had to do it himself.  When he was putting the 4-wheel drive into neutral, the light went out so he assumed it was in neutral - well, it wasn't, it was somewhere in between and the wheels locked up and we drug the Jeep ten feet before a neighbor yelled at us.  Okay, that problem solved, now we're on our way.  We had tried to use our GPS but it couldn't locate our destination, even using intersections!, so we thought all we had to do was stay on US-95 and that would get us to Creston.  WRONG!!!  When we got to the border our thought was "WOW!  This crossing has gotten popular and is a lot bigger", still not realizing we were at the wrong border crossing!  It was a bummer, too, because we had left all our booze at our friend's house because we didn't want to get caught with too much alcohol in case of an inspection, then they didn't even inspect us.  DARN!  Oh, well, better safe than sorry.  So, our adventure continued.  It was only about a 35 mile detour.  We finally made it to Creston, but the street that our funky little map showed as a through road didn't go through and we ended up on a dead-end street.  So, Lee unhooked the Jeep and followed me to our destination, Lister Park.

The Creston Valley is a beautiful area, surrounded by mountains.  The weather was warm and we had a great time with all our friends from Baja.  John, our host, brought his carriage over for rides, we took a canoe trip through the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area, a tour of the Columbia Brewery, and a tour of a local cheese factory.  When we weren't busy sightseeing, we quickly got into our Baja mode and sat around and ate and talked and drank and were entertained by Karen on her flute and Jim on his banjo.
